Young Alumna Award
The Young Alumna Award is presented to Lykendra Johnson ‘07. After Trinity High School, Lykendra attended Michigan State University where she became the second in program history and the 13th Big Ten Conference player with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is one of four Big Ten Conference players to surpass 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 steals, and 100 blocks in her career. She is one of the six in program history to be a four-time All-Big Ten selection. She was a Big Ten Conference Champion in 2011 along with being the 2010-11 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. She also led the Big Ten conference in offensive rebounds in each of her final two seasons. She was a two-time MSU Defensive Player of the Year and two-time team captain. She is a retired professional basketball player, playing in Norrkoping, Sweden for 1 year and Athens, Greece for 6 years with a championship every year that she played.
Lykendra is currently working in her new role as a paralegal at the Westside Justice Center on the city’s west side. Her work consists of reviewing and organizing client files while assisting her colleagues. Her work also entails preparing documents for legal transactions, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, and discovery notices, interviewing clients and witnesses and assisting at closing trials.
She has a clothing brand which is called Shine Within which she dedicated to her daughter. She named it Shine Within after one of her favorite Bible scriptures Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Her clothing brand consists of t-shirts, shorts, bags, and water bottles and is expanding. She is working to become an agent and personal fitness trainer. She prides herself most as being the mother of two children, Destinie, and Jordyn.
