2005 THS Board Emeritus Honorees

Mike Furey is a Senior Vice President, Northern Trust Company, Chicago . Mike’s wife Maureen (Burke ‘65) and daughter, Molly (Furey ‘94) Hanley are Trinity High School graduates. Their loyalty and enthusiasm for their alma mater are positive influences on Mike. During his six years of rewarding stewardship on the Board, Mike served on the finance committee as an advisor, member and chair. Mike is grateful for the opportunities that board service provided him to support Trinity’s mission and future. Mike appreciates, especially, the distinguished leadership and contributions of Bernie Hanley, Tom Grusecki and Sister Michelle.

Sue Kaszynski has been the Director of Music and Liturgy for St. Giles Parish since 1998, and a part of the Campus Ministry team, providing music and liturgy direction to the Dominican University Community for over a decade. “Throughout my life, I have been continually inspired by the passion and dedication of the Sinsinawa Dominicans. Their influence on my life began at Trinity High School where I was challenged to fully develop my capabilities as a woman and a leader in my church and community. Serving on the Board only deepened my belief in its mission. Educating young women, helping them to realize their potential, and encouraging them to make meaningful and significant contributions to our society is a great legacy. I am both proud and privileged to be a part of it.”

Terry Donlin served as President of Comet Die & Engraving Company for 40 years. Terry’s wife Weezie ’56 and three daughters, Molly Donlin Dee ’80, Susie Donlin Dunphy ’83 and Anne Donlin ’84 are Trinity graduates.  Living in the same house with four Trinity alumnae, Terry was quick to accept Marianne O’Donoghue’s invitation to serve on the Trinity Board of Directors. During his six years of service on the Board, Terry served on the Facility and Grounds Committee as well as the Finance Committee. “It was extremely important to me that Trinity’s Library was an up-to-date learning center.” He was very instrumental in computerizing the library system. He is still active at Trinity, serving as an advisor to the Finance Committee of the Board.

John A. Rubino is a retired Senior Executive of the Walgreen Co. and was invited to serve on Trinity’s Board by Bob Coleman. With his wife Ronnie, two daughters, Julie and Maggie, three sisters-in-law and an aunt by marriage all Trinity grads, he saw no way to escape! John served a six-year term during some of Trinity’s most difficult days and says he has been rewarded for his efforts with two beautiful granddaughters who may one day benefit from the Trinity experience. “Teaching young women leadership skills and providing them with a strong sense of their own independence is important to them and to all of us as well”. John is proud of his Trinity connection and is committed to its future.

2002 THS Board Emeritus Honorees
Trinity High School continues to be blessed with a group of truly dedicated individuals who keep the best interests of the students foremost in their sight. These dedicated people are our current Board of Directors. These Directors follow in the footsteps of our early Board members who helped pave the way to Trinity’s success. Three individuals who were members of Trinity’s early Board are being recognized this evening as this year’s Board Emeritus Honorees. They each served the school for the maximum amount of time possible, two full terms. Their dedication and hard work were instrumental in the development of the programs that make Trinity the outstanding educational institution it is today.

John M. Kennelly is an attorney and principal of Kennelly & Associates in Oak Park . Jack’s wife, JoAnne and her sisters, Chris, Laura, and Mary Beth, are Trinity alums. Their parents, Frank and Lee Smith were also very active at Trinity while their daughters were in school. These connections led to Jack’s interest and ultimately his involvement in Trinity. Jack was proud and honored when his friend, Ann Campagna offered him the opportunity to serve on Trinity’s Board of Directors. During his tenure on the Board, Jack served as Chair of the Development Committee and was elected Chair of the Board for the 1995-96 school year. According to Jack “Planning and perseverance have made Trinity the vibrant force and leader in the education of young women.” He also feels that the most significant accomplishment of the Board of Directors during his tenure was the hiring of Sister Michelle as President.

Dennis G. Kenny is a C.P.A. and C.V.A. at the firm Kenny & Kenny, P.C., as well as a father, grandfather and Trinity volunteer. Dennis’ wife Mary Ellen and his daughter Beth are graduates of Trinity. Dennis was called to join the Board by Marianne O’Donoghue and Joe Shaker. Dennis can foresee Trinity as the global model to educate young women with the values that transcend time and for providing academic excellence, as well as, nurturing life long friendships. Dennis believes we need smart people, but with the values of compassion, respect, responsibility, and integrity.

Eugene McEnery is a leading physician in the Chicago area. Gene and his wife Sistie have two daughters, Mary and Clare, who are Trinity alums. Gene became involved in Trinity through the persistent urging of his wife and daughters and he cheerfully calls himself “a happy victim of women’s liberation!” Gene strongly believes that the future of Oak Park and River Forest are directly tied to Trinity’s future. Trinity provides an excellent educational option for the residents of both communities. He also feels that River Forest would suffer a real loss if that option were not a part of the total package they offer their residents.

2001 THS Board Emeritus Honorees
Trinity High School has been continually blessed throughout the years, especially during the formation of the Board of Directors. We were blessed to find a group of truly dedicated individuals who always kept the best interests of the students foremost in their sight throughout many challenging times. Six of the original members of the Board served Trinity for the maximum amount of time possible, and through their tireless efforts have helped to make Trinity the exemplary institution it is today.

Ann Campagna currently a management and training consultant, was the very first Board Chair and held that office for three years. A former Sinsinawa Dominican Sister, Ann had been in education her entire life, so she was a natural choice to help develop the by-laws for the new Board and to lead it during it’s early years. She was drawn to Trinity because of its single gender philosophy and the unparalleled opportunities it offered to its young women. Ann recently reminisced, “I will never forget all the people, both sisters and lay faculty and staff, who have put their hearts and soul into Trinity.”

Robert F. Coleman is an attorney and Principal of Robert F. Coleman & Associates. Bob became involved with Trinity through the McGowan’s and Devereux’s. He is said to have given his daughter Cassie two choices for high school – Trinity or Trinity! Bob was a member of the Trinity-Fenwick Negotiating Team when talk regarding a possible merger took place. Bob was instrumental in Trinity’s adoption of the International Baccalaureate Program. Bob believes that “Trinity will enjoy continued success and importance within the local community and the metropolitan Chicago area as it stays the course and continues to offer excellence in education.”

Thomas Collins is President of Collins Engineers, Inc. Tom, Trinity’s only board member to serve seven years, became involved in the school through a high school visit with his wife Roxanne and daughter Elizabeth. They were so impressed with Trinity that he not only sent both his daughters (Elizabeth ’88 and Katherine ’92) here, but he joined the first Board without hesitation. Tom served as Board Chair during the 1996-97 school year. In the coming years, Tom seed “Trinity continuing to graduate young women leaders in business, government, community and family who will also bring Catholic moral principals to their roles.”

Marianne O’Donoghue is a leading dermatologist in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. Marianne was drawn into the Trinity community through her daughters, Mary Kate ’81 and Maureen ‘84, who thrived under the care of the Sinsinawa Dominicans. She was encouraged by Margaret (Honey) McGuire ’45 Powers to join Trinity’s first Board and she soon became quite a proponent of all that was in Trinity’s best interest. Marianne worked diligently on committees such as Finance and the Executive Committee and she served as Vice-Chair for three years. Marianne sees Trinity’s “continual growth as it educates the young women of today to be the leaders and mothers of tomorrow. I know I will be celebrating from heaven as Trinity celebrates well into the next century.”

Margaret (Honey) McGuire Powers ’45 a wife, mother, grandmother and volunteer, has been involved with Trinity for as long as she can remember. Her parents built a house on Jackson so she could attend Trinity, whether she wanted to or not! The tradition Honey began continue with her daughters and granddaughter who are all Trinity alums. Honey served as Board Secretary for six years and views her time on the Board as her chance to give back to Trinity some of what she received in her school days. The future of Trinity, through Honey’s eyes, “holds a larger enrollment as people begin to see Trinity for all it is and make it their choice for their daughters.”

Melissa Water, O.P. is the Assistant Academic Dean of Dominican University . A Sinsinawa Dominican, Melissa has had a long relationship with Trinity. She knew Trinity as a educational star during here teaching days in another high school and became involved in its challenges and development when she served as Provincial for the Congregation. Later she felt it was an honor to be asked to serve on the Board of Directors of this remarkable educational life center for so many young women. Sister Melissa sees “Trinity’s educational oasis for life experiences continuing to evolve through the strong leadership of all those involved in Trinity who dedicate themselves to creating an unforgettable educational faith community in the Dominican way,”
