IB Celebrates 40 Years of Global Education

This new year is truly one of noteworthy celebrations at Trinity. With ninety years of educating young women in the Dominican tradition, we are also proud to be in partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organization which marks its 40 th anniversary. The impact of the IB at Trinity and around the globe has been profound. Its lofty goal of creating a better and more peaceful world may be witnessed in the aims of the IB Learner Profile which challenges students to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. To accomplish these aims, the six disciplines and three unique components of the Diploma Program stress global learning:

Group I: Through the study of landmarks in world literature, students read, reflect and discuss the human condition as expressed in novels, dramas, poetry, stories and essays around the world.

Group II: Learning about other cultures by studying and speaking French, Italian and Spanish allows students to view the world from another perspective.

Group III: History of the Americas and Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) emphasize relationships among nations, their political, economic, and social ideologies and technological advancements.

Group IV: Biology and Chemistry promote hands-on exploration of the scientific method shared the world over through experiments, discoveries and inventions.

Group V: Mathematics introduces students to the universal language of numbers and its impact on human life.

Group VI: Visual Arts and Film Studies highlight the creative impulse of artists expressing timeless and contemporary universal human concerns.

Theory of Knowledge(TOK) presents various perspectives on the topics of truth, belief, knowledge and certainty across cultures and examines the integration of learning.

Creativity, Action and Service(CAS) stresses local and global community work through volunteerism that fosters compassion, insight and moral responsibility.

The Extended Essay allows students to select a topic of interest and with the guidance of a faculty mentor explore a wealth of resources from the international community of scholars.

Through its extensive focus on global education, the IB Diploma Program provides vital tools for success along with a passion for lifelong learning. Trinity students are well poised to develop their best selves as they pursue this widely renowned curriculum.
