Trinity Library's 4th annual Heartbreak Cafe was held in the Library during Period 3 on Friday, February 13. Students and faculty shared original works as well as poetry and songs by their favorite artists.
Mrs. Susie Bedell ably moderated the poetry reading again this year and declared it one of her favorite Trinity events. Beloved teachers Mr. Sean Patrick Loesch, Mrs. Julia Buckley, and Ms. Tamariz Irlanda were joined by "newcomers' including Dominican intern Mrs. Becky McCormack and the duet team of Mrs. Tara Suchland and Mrs. Kate Absher.
Ode to a Trinity Girl
By Julia Buckley
How special is the Trinity Girl
With high-piled hair so grand to see!
Her uniform cannot disguise
Her individuality.
She’s modest, she’s imperious—
She makes demands, but gives in turn;
She wears illegal diamond studs
But listens when she’s asked to learn.
She cares not for the open book
But loves the cell phone in her sleeve!
If only tests and syllabi
Were thrilling as IMs from Steve!
And yet she boldly perseveres;
She battles with bio and chem—
With plot and with pentameter—
Oh, she’s a learning gem!
She’s late for her first period
With no excuse in sight
Except that Starbucks took too long—
And that just isn’t right!
When torn from her hot latte
With its curlicues and cream,
She can be quite distracted,
And she lingers in a dream:
Why can’t those teachers see it
From a student’s point of view?
Who needs mental stimulation
When a jolt of caffeine will do?
But finally she turns the page
She gradually tunes in—
And finds the knowledge is right there
Just inches past her chin!
Oh, heaven bless the Trinity girl!
She’ll graduate, but never leave.
Her heart will stay within our walls
While she goes on to achieve.
