Oak Park writer Kathi Baron spoke to students at Trinity High School on Friday, December 4th, about her first published novel, Shattered. Students who had read the book gathered in the Trinity library to listen to Baron’s reflections on the realities of publication and promotion. Baron responded to student’s questions about the writing process and how one begins a prospect as daunting as writing a novel.
Baron revealed that Shattered went through many revisions before it was sold to West Side Books. Her advice to aspiring writers was to “write because you love to write. If it makes you unhappy, then find what you love.” Baron signed copies of her book for interested students.
Trinity plans to ask another author to do a book chat in the spring; librarians Molly Klowden and Sue Tindall encourage Trinity’s students to read the books of visiting writers so that in-depth discussions will ensue.
